This was a very interesting project with a twist. HM Cragg is my employer and we are very proud of our core values.
This project started as a surprise for my group. We all work remotely but I thought it would be nice to share my talents with the main office as well.
A wall-hanging with logos and our core values seemed the perfect choice
Custom Embroidery
So, I struggled with how to present this. A master section held all the embroidery elements. There is no piecing. I strived to emulate the way the values look on our website and in the office.
I used my Hatch Embroidery Software to create each letter set. Below you can see the first layout.
Custom Quilting
I used Linda’s Special batting for this project. It is so soft, luxurious and very thick! I tried to keep the quilting looking very business-like? Geometric was the style I wanted.
At our gathering in 2021, I presented the quilt to the group and they loved it!
Then Everything Changed!
Not too long after I presented the quilt I learned that the management team was considering adding another core value. This meant that the original quilt was outdated already! I struggled with either remaking the quilt or adjusting what I had.
If you are a quilter, you will recognize how difficult this was. My boss sent me the original and I mulled it over for a time.
So here is what I did. I first removed the entire inner section of the quilt.
Then I cut off the upper applique section to be used later.
Next, I cut a new blank for the bottom section. You may notice in the original version that my spacing was not perfect. That always annoyed me.
This time, I hand-basted a quadrant for each core value to reside:
The new core value: Safety First found it’s new home!
After embroidering the new bottom section, I put the two pieces together. Next, I sewed this back into the middle of the quilt.
The final version of HM CRAGG 2.0 is better than the original and I am happy I was able to recycle this project.
It goes to show that with a little ingenuity and patience, you can do a lot!
