As many of you know, I am not a big kit or panel person. On the other hand, there are some quilts that benefit from a head start. Hailey’s ABCs is a quilt that began from a vintage-looking panel.
Quilt Layout
Yes, I could have just slapped a backing on this and quilted it out, but that would have been boring. Instead, I tried a couple of different layouts. My first step was to separate the blocks.
When I did this, I realized that there was only a 1/2 inch blue border surrounding them all. As we all know, when using a 1/4 inch seam all the blue would be gone. That was sort of sad and a bit of a waste.
Because of this, I decided to add sashing between the blocks. Here is one layout I tried.
E2E Quilting
I used wool batting and a cute E2E design called Quackers to finish this little quilt.
The soft and poofy batting will be great for our granddaughter to lay on while she tries to figure out what a quoits is.
Oh and one more thing to add, this was my UFO #7 for the Red Boot Retreat UFO Challenge and I finished it in time!
