Fractal Scrap

Fractal Scrap is another in a series of scrap quilts I am working on this year. This one was so fun! Unfortunately, it did not make much of a dent in my Mary Poppins scrap bag 🙁

I wasn’t sure what to name this quilt until it was complete. I took one look and couldn’t call it anything else.

Quilt Design

This is another version of the dryer sheet strip quilt. For this one I made my rectangular blocks and then cut them diagonally.

These diagonal segments were then thrown in a bag and mixed up. I reassembled them into new rectangular blocks. The fun part was figuring out how to put it all together. The thought of putting only blocks and no sashing had my head hurting.

Adding the sashing made it all come together. Then to make this more interesting, I alternated horizontal and vertical placement.

This is my favorite scrap quilt to date.

E2E Qulting

http://www.urbanelementz.comOne cool thing about scrap quilts is that you can use about any E2E pattern. I chose to make this quilt fun and flirty with Playful Dolphins from Urban Elementz:

PLAYFUL DOLPHINS

I enjoy how they swim across the quilt.

The binding came next and in the true fashion of a scrap quilt, I made it scrappy! I actually save all my cast-offs after every quilt and add them to a binding to use when I need it.

Quilt Back and Label

I took the same approach to the backing as I did for the rest of the quilt. I save the cast-offs from my 108″ 3 yard backings and put them together for scrap quilts.

As I am typing this, I realized I didn’t get a picture of the back of this quilt. Loki decided that the picture needed a little “puppy love” so there ya go!

The label uses colors from the backing fabric and fits nicely.

Now it is time to figure out a new way use this style of scrap block. Stay tuned.
